MacbookPro M1 Max - ARM Processors, Parallels VM

More of a question, hopefully to CapturingReality Staff.

With the Apple Silicon M1 Pro/Max Processors, and the multiple GPU’s within the M1. Is there any development of RealityCapture developed for the Apple Silicon ARM processors?

The various Video Editing, Graphical, and Photography are regaining a new strong interest in the Apple Silicon ARM processors. The internal multi-core GPU’s add substantial performance to system.

Question, any interest in developing for the Apple Silicon Processors and Mac ARM OS. It’s certainly a system with more than ample power to manage images and modeling.

Currently I am able to run Windows 11 ARM OS within Parallels VM, and it does run Reality Capture. But would like to see a native Mac ARM OS specifically focused on the Apple Silicon, to take advantage of a Notebook “On Battery” that provides strong CPU & GPU performance.

With Microsoft developing a Windows 11 ARM OS, hopefully an ARM Reality Capture build would share similarities capable to use on both Windows & Mac ARM architecture.

Hi dougcjohn, now it is possible just how you described. I will add your vote to this feature request.

HI Ondrej Trhan CR & dougcjohn, can you tell me how to run RC on the virtual machine. I couldn’t get it to work on my M1 Max and Paralles 17. It asked me to add Cuda 11 but it didn’t work? If it is possible to have a tutorial. Thank you in advance . PS CR if you can release a mac version that would be fine😁

Hello, I was wrong… It does run in lower preview but I received the same Cuda & DirectX errors you mentioned in Normal.

I was confusing my MBP Intel i7 & Win 11 VM, that does support. The Win11 ARM VM on MacBook Pro Max M1 does not.

Parallels 17 on M1 with ARM Win11 needs to add support for both DirectX & 3D graphics.

Do you have NVIDIA card on your Macs?

If you are using MacBook or other compatible Mac OS device you can install RealityCapture with Boot Camp.
Boot Camp is a utility that comes with your Mac and lets you switch between macOS and Windows. Download your copy of Windows 10, then let Boot Camp Assistant walk you through the installation steps. You can read more about Boot Camp here: https://support.apple.com/boot-camp
Then just boot into Windows 10 using Boot Camp, download RealityCapture from our website and install it on the Windows partition.

We have heard a rumour that it can run using parallels. We have not tested this internally so I would not believe it unless you see it with your own eyes. It might be worth reaching out to the online photogrammetry community to see if anyone has actually tried it. If this did work, it would most likely be very unstable.
