Hello
I have a MacPro 4,1 (2009) upgraded to 5,1 (2010) dual octo 2.66MHz 64BG with a GTX680 (flashed to Mac version rom).
My plan is to have Windows 10 on this to run a RTX 2060, what seems a good cost/perf choice for RealityCapture. I won’t use this machine with MacOS anymore, most likely.
Will this most likely work and be a good configuration? I am aware of PCi-e bandwidth limitations.
Can I expect some troubles?
Thanks
Hello everyone!
I’d like to share some tips regarding installing the RTX 2060 in a Mac and improving hardware compatibility.
Firstly, I recommend installing Windows natively on your Mac, as the macOS operating system can potentially limit or interfere with the hardware upgrades you intend to make. If you need guidance on how to do this, I’ll provide a link at the end to assist you.
Based on my research, it is indeed possible to use the RTX 2060 on a Mac with relative ease. However, it’s important to note that you might experience a performance loss of approximately 6% due to the backward compatibility of the PCIe 2.0 slot. Despite this, the graphics card will function normally.
To power the card, you’ll need to acquire a dual PCI cable, from mini 6 pins to 8 pins. Fortunately, the Mac itself supports this type of cable on the motherboard, eliminating the need for any workarounds.
After installing the card, remember to consistently check and keep your drivers up to date to ensure the proper functioning of your setup.
I hope these tips prove helpful for your project. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out for assistance.
