When ever I launch the 4.2 Mac version of the editor - it crashes before launching. Is this an issue with Macs?
Can you please post your Mac’s specifications, which can be found by going to the Apple menu, About This Mac, More Info… and copying the information on the first screen.
A machine that meets the minimum requirements shouldn’t crash, but older hardware is unsupported and may not work. Are you sure you meet the minimum system requirements? Our minimum system requirements are posted in the Frequently Asked Questions section of our main page, UnrealEngine.com.
You will need a powerful setup to get
started developing with UE4 right now.
Here’s what we recommend: Desktop PC
or Mac Windows 7 64-bit or Mac OS X
10.9.2 or later Quad-core Intel or AMD processor, 2.5 GHz or faster NVIDIA
GeForce 470 GTX or AMD Radeon 6870 HD
series card or higher 8 GB RAM
These specifications reflect what we feel are the minimum requirements to have a good user experience using the engine.
The engine can run on slower machines in most instances but it is not guaranteed to run or to even provide a good user experience.
Could try taking a look at the log file:
ProjectName\Saved\Logs\ProjectName.txt
and seeing if there is any error output there?
I believe I meet the requirements and I’m experiencing a crash on OS/X about every 30 minutes since the 4.2 release. Occasionally opening a project will fail, especially if I’ve just recently had to force quit because of a freeze or a crash.
Hi plinecone, you shouldn’t be experiencing a crash on that Mac, so could you copy the callstack from the UE4 Crash Reporter and also attach any relevant project logs from ~/Library/Logs/Unreal Engine, you can get to the Library folder by holding down Alt/Opt and opening Finder’s Go menu.
It be really handy to have a log which captures the crash and also one which was written when the project subsequently failed to launch. The latest one will be ‘ProjectName’.log and earlier ones will be renamed with a date to make them unique.
