I have win 10 64 and 32 GB RAM. How can get it faster ?. I start it with the play button in the editor and enable the fps display in options. I have 4k monitor but i reduce resolution to 1280720 window mode . I must stay on gforce 1030 (which have 2 GB GFX Ram) because there is no faster fan free GFX card with less TDP for a silent PC. I need my PC mostly for music but like also do some game things. half life 2 or war thunder and many others run mostly with frame rate more than 30 fps on 38402150 resolution which is ok.
is there no fast game possible with 3 year old GFX card ?. the lyra starting game have no detailed textures, so i wonder wy it work so extreme slow. are there starting games that are faster for unreal 5 engine ?
You may want to go into your graphics program included with your graphics card (should be GeForce Experience) and set the Unreal Engine program to specifically use your graphics card, as it seems like it’s defaulting to using your onboard chipset! That’s typically the reason for this sort of thing, there’s no reason Lyra should be running that badly with this setup.
Excellent point. If your PC (or laptop) has a built-in GPU on your motherboard, often the nVidia software will auto-select the WRONG GPU to run an app on.
Especially, for instance, an un-released game in development, like Lyra.
I have disable internal intel GFX in Bios, it is not list in device manager of windos. it show only nvidia card and i have only a cable from my nvidia. but is it possible that unreal engine use this GPU too and think it is faster then, so all slow down ?.
@xbox_234 If it is disabled in your BIOS, it shouldn’t be used, correct. However, I’ve seen stranger things happen with my computer
Definitely take a look at what’s going on in your graphics card with GeForce Experience if you haven’t. It’s great at helping figure things like this out, and I’m really thinking it’s a software/hardware setup issue that GeForce Experience could iron out
I use the unreal editor and i see nothing from epic and unreal engine in gforce experience. I have scan the epic folder.
I test now the 2 chair 1 table scene in editor. its very strange . when i click on scalability button in editor then frame rate is 100 fps when the window is open . i use setting high and does nothing change. but when i close the window the frame rate drop to 10 fps . the window use only 20% of the display and cover only sky. the chair and table and ground is visible. i can not upload a video that show this(new user limit in this forum) . but maybe you see the problem more often
I do more tests . read also above post
reset of nvidia settings to default do not speedup
disable object visibility of clouds , chair, table and ground do not speedup
It shows always in editor memory 2.9xx,xx MB this look as it need too much texture memory for my 2 GB card. the memory is not reduce when objects are disable.
I do fresh boot and only windows desktop is show on 4k screen res
so what i can do to reduce texture memory usage and wy the chair and table scene use so much texture ?
how much posts i need do until i can upload screenshots or videos here ?
EDIT:
I let the scene convert to 5.1 . there come a message that shader model 6 should use. so i change setting to shader model 6. my gfx card can do that .textures look lots diffrent to the 5.0 original project too
. speed problem is same . see in the minipicture how diffrent it look on 5.0 and 5.1
So I did a little more research and the answer seems so much more obvious now.
Screen resolution is directly tied to frame rate because higher resolution=more resource expenditure. 4k rendering takes roughly four times as much resources as Full HD. If you want better resolution with a 2GB VRAM card, you’re going to have to stop using a 4k monitor or lower the resolution to 1920x1080. If you can use another monitor temporarily, give that a try and see what happens.
I have switch my whole windows to 1920x1080 . the frame rate when the windows is open is same at around 100 fps .with the window closed it is 33 fps. it is same as when i let the Editor work in a 1920 window and let my windows desktop at 4k
Wy this simple scene use so much Vram ?. wy this run lots faster when the window is open ?
I have use more game engines and notice only on very complex scenes problems with too few vmem on my gfx card . how can i reduce the vmem usage ? see screenshot i delete many objects and it fit in vram now but still slow .
I do a test with project settings vulkan and shader model 5 in the 5.1(the 5.0.x crash short after display some) . it use less texture memory and 2 GB are enough for the chair test and it run faster. it seem with shader model 6 it run also 2*faster as with shader model 5 in dx 12 on my card
Problem is Vulkan crash on start when i use shader model 6 in project. does shader model 6 work in vulkan ?
also the convert of the project work wrong from 5.0 . see screenshots before. the ground texture is not correct
normally my GFX card should be as fast as a android or apple GFX system. i still think it is too slow this is screenshot with vulkan and shader model 5
no speedup possible ?. maybe you think this dude should buy a faster GFX card. but the card is as fast as phone and tablet graphics . so to test how a game run on phone it is also good.
So something you will need to understand: a creation software is not equivalent in requirements to the target platform. It is much more intensive, by several, several times.
Our minimum specs recommend 8GB VRAM. I don’t know what else to say I wish there was something I could have you do that would make it work.
