Hot take:
- Lumen completely changes how we should work, from the very first step of work, to the end.
- Lumen is not for everyone.
- Lumen needs to be “catered to”.
- Lumen (Software) is a stopgap-solution (until RT-Hardware finally gets good) and will disappear at some point.
Some projects simply should stick to baking and/or HW-Raytracing.
There really is no reason to slap Lumen (with its limitations) onto a use-case that doesnt meet the needs of Lumen, especially not when there are established alternatives.
Meh, even my game (which was already built from modular pieces, for ease of use) had to be turned upside down to work well with lumen, and the game pretty much was a “best case scenario” for lumen to begin with. And even now, half a year later, I am having “arguments” with Lumen (and Nanite) about certain things…
Reality is: Lumen is great, but many use-cases will have plenty of trouble with it. (I would even expect, that Lumen will have a visible effect on how future UE5 games will look, simply due to the limitations.)
