I’ve read many threads on forums and watched plenty of tutorials on Youtube regarding optimization in Unreal Engine 5.
However, I consistently hit 30-50 FPS on the default template level. Basic environment light setup, a couple of cubes and ThirdPersonCharacter mannequin. How is it possible that a scene like that can bring my PC down to its knees?
The reason I ask is because I can play Apex Legends on High settings, 1440p, 60 fps. Same goes for GTAV. So I’m confused as to how its possible that a nearly blank UE5 scene can do that to my PC, but AAA games run smooth.
My PC: Ryzen 5 3600, Nvidia GTX 1660, 16 GB of RAM.

Hello,
Unreal has a LOT of overhead. It’s a new Engine, so it’s going to take time for tech to catch up to it.
That said, your GPU is not equipped to handle the Engine. You truly do need an RTX 2060 or Higher. As well as 32 GB RAM.
These are absolute MINIUMUMS.
■■■■, thats sad to hear. You mean a 2060 + 32 Gigs of RAM is needed to develop games in unreal or to play games made in unreal aswell?
Both.
Again, it’s the OVERHEAD that causes this issue.
You may be able to disable Nanite, Lumen, and a bunch of other native features, but by that point you really should just use the previous version of the Engine.
