Low CPU usage during compile (6%)

Unreal Engine 5.0.2 takes forever to compile on my computer, as it’s not using the hardware’s full potential. As far as I’m concerned, my system doesn’t lack resources. I can’t see a bottle neck happening either, yet it uses only 6% of my CPU. As a results, opening a simple project takes anywhere from 45min to 1h30.

I found a post on Reddit about someone else having this issue, but the proposed solution didn’t work for me.

Would anyone know why, and provide a solution?

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900x
RAM: 32Gb DDR4 @3200
Disk: 2Tb NVMe (2 x 1Tb in RAID 0)
Main GPU: NVidia 3080 Ti

I found a solution to this problem. I’m sharing it in the hopes it can help someone else!

What I did:

  • I re-installed Windows 11
    • Using AMD’s official NVMe RAID drivers in the setup (only use those drives if you’re installing Windows on a RAID configuration. If you don’t know what that is, leave it be and skip this step!)
  • Once in Windows, I installed AMD’s official Chipset drivers

I probably didn’t need to reinstall Windows. It looks like I had a chipset issue. Honestly, I don’t remember installing those chipset drivers the first time I installed Windows so I figure that it’s probably that. After doing those steps, I installed Unreal Engine 5.0.2 again and it compiled much faster, using 86% of my CPU or so.
