Loss of texture and painted vegetation upon synching with the source [SketchUp Pro 2022]

Dear,

I have this problem with the latest TwinMotion that all imported textures from SketchUp turn up as a blank white texture whenever I try to refresh my model. Apparently changing the properties of the texture will restore it back to it's correct texture, it's a temporarily solution but still very frustrating.

It has been a few years since the issue came into light that painted vegetation will be lost upon synching with an edited geometry used for the vegetation and has still not been resolved with the latest versions, is there an estimated time when it will be resolved?

Thank you in advance,

T

Hello Tommie and thank you for reaching out.

You are right, this is a super old issue and yes it is very frustrating.

Unfortunately, this is the way the importer was built. So until the importer is rewritten, it will be impossible to fix it.

There's a plan to rewrite the importer but no actual time frame was set yet.

I expect this issue to be a limitation for a while.

Very sorry :(

MC

I have the same frustrations with losing painted vegetation when I reload my terrain surface (FBX export from Autodesk Infraworks). We've been hoping to use Twinmotion to support visuals throughout the entire design process...meaning our terrain surfaces are getting revised constantly, also meaning we're constantly losing our painted vegetation. Perhaps instead of us waiting on a rewritten importer, maybe Twinmotion should consider the addition of a special model category or tag of sorts that be assigned to any imported object(s) we might want to use as a terrain for hosting painted vegetation. Then revisit the "Painted vegetation" tool by having the ability to assign/reassign the existing painted vegetation object to any selected element(s) you've designated as a Terrain....thus snapping the existing painted vegetation to the newly imported surface you've designated as "terrain". Whatever the fix ends up being, we need Epic to to resolve this issue sooner rather than later, as it is a constant loss of work for many of your users in the Design community.
