I was hoping to get some feedback from you all. I am new to UE5.1 and tried to create a photorealistic environment but to me it still looks like a video game cut scene. “Rebirth” set the bar very high for us beginners. I had serious issues with running out of virtual memory to the point that I had to cross my fingers and hope the textures and lights would all work at the same time.
My plan is to make a 30 min Game of Thrones fan film short and this is the intro for that. How can I get this to look more realistic?
Hi Jon, Great water! Birds! God Rays! The scene feels complete. (Nice music too)
As a point of feedback - the camera motion on the water shots feels unrealistic. I think what you’re going for is a boat. A boat would probably pitch up and down more than left/right as it crests the waves. (Since those waves would be parallel with the shore)
I emphatically agree with @Astrotronic ! The ocean water, the original GOT music, the birds, and the lighting culminate into a picturesque and majestic Old Valyria. This is very fitting for GOT lore!
I see your goal is for a 30 minute fan film! Wow, what a feat! My only critique is the way the waves crash upon the shore. The sea foam seems to disappear and reappear into the landscape the farther it goes out. I don’t know if this will help, but I found a video here regarding Realtime Water Physics.
Wishing you the best of luck with your fan film and a very Happy New Year!
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, that’s what I was going for. What you don’t see in that shot is supposed to be a boat with 2 people in it. The camera would be looking over the right shoulder of Jon and at the face of an old man rowing the boat. I couldn’t figure out how to animate the rowing action, so I hid that layer.
This is great. Thanks for the feedback. That cinematic water system looks great until you get to shore. I am also experimenting with Waterline Pro as well.
You’re most welcome, @NanoPixel ! If you decide to make any improvements to your project, please remember to share them in this thread. Your work is so impressive, and we would love to see your progress.
