Hi, this is my first post here. I am looking for some in-depth books on Unreal Engine that I can read on my breaks at work. Preferably not material that is too expensive. I am very familiar with other software in the development pipeline, so I am not a complete beginner, but my knowledge of nodes and how game logic works in Unreal is very limited. I am also looking to make use of the Houdini engine in my pipeline if there is any literature on that as well. Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
You’re better off with online tutorials. Books take so long to get published that by the time they do there’s like 5 new releases of the engine and some things won’t be accurate anymore.
You can search for courses at Udemy.com, they are extremely cheap and you can be aware of those which has being receiving regular updates. This is important, because since the courses are lifetime, it is important to choose on instructor which always update their courses.
I’ve been looking into some courses also. I really like learning from MIX Training, and will be purchasing at least one of his courses soon. It’s just not very practical for me to go through them at work as I have to use my phone’s data and I can’t follow along with them when I’m away from my PC. I understand the software is constantly updated, but I’m sure most of the core concepts will remain the same. I’m just looking for some resources to help me learn more about the software as a whole.
These are the two I’m currently considering:
I’ve got the Tom Shannon one at my desk. I also sit about 30 feet away from Tom since he is an Epic employee now. (but I haven’t read the book yet. Shhhhh…don’t tell Tom)
Your secret is safe with me haha. I just bought myself a copy. Can’t wait to go through it.
