Looking for advice: big datasetS, need to create a good import/creation pipeline

I am trying to build a pipeline that would let me (from a large dataset of tiles, both RGB and Heightmap) create assets programmatically.

For example, I have 32,000 tiles at 256by256px rgb that I want to use as pretty textures on instanced meshes, the same number of tiles that worth of height-map(hm) data that I want to use to displace parts of said mesh.

Based off of the imported tile’s position (indicated in the filename of said file) create/instantiate a mesh, create/instantiate a material, assign the base color and world map displacement to the rgb and hm tiles respectively – then be able to spawn them into my scene(s), obviously with an offset from the previously instantiated tile such that they make what appears (to a player) to be contiguous geometry.

I have tried using python for this, and have had some success importing the textures and generating materials, but have not been able to work out how to assign textures properly to my material and, it unfortunately seems that creating static meshes with the python api is not exposed.

If there’s a builtin that does this – please forgive my ignorance.

New to Unreal, new to CPP/BP – not new to programming, but I’m not good at it either.
