Hi everyone,
I’m currently putting together a development team for an ambitious multiplayer VR roleplay project built in Unreal Engine 5, with Meta Quest as the primary target platform.
The main idea is to create a persistent multiplayer VR world focused on roleplay, player interaction, progression, freedom, and a functioning virtual society.
This is not planned as a small RP map or a collection of disconnected VR minigames.
The long-term goal is to create a large-scale multiplayer roleplay experience where players can build a character, progress through different stages of life, choose their own path, interact with other players, participate in the economy, work different jobs, join organizations, commit crimes, enforce laws, study, own property, and generally live inside a persistent virtual world.
The basic progression concept currently looks like this:
• Character creation and first spawn
• Introduction to basic VR interactions and game mechanics
• Learning basic skills
• School
• Secondary education
• University or professional education
• Choosing a profession or career direction
• Employment
• Career progression
• Independent life
• Free exploration and long-term roleplay
I don’t want the education part to feel like sitting in a virtual classroom for hours.
The idea is for these stages to introduce mechanics, skills, social interactions, professions, and different paths available later in the game.
After the initial progression, the experience becomes much more open-ended.
Players should have freedom to decide what kind of life they want to build.
Some players could focus on completely normal civilian life.
Others could work in medicine, law enforcement, business, education, transportation, public services, entertainment, or other professions.
Others could enter criminal activities and create situations that affect police officers, doctors, lawyers, businesses, civilians, and other players.
The world is planned to include systems and roles such as:
• Police
• Criminals
• Hospitals
• Doctors and medical staff
• Emergency services
• Schools
• Universities
• Different professions
• Companies
• Employment systems
• Player-owned or managed businesses
• Banking
• Economy
• Property
• Apartments and houses
• Vehicles
• Shops
• Casinos
• Entertainment locations
• Public services
• Government-related roles
• Criminal organizations
• Civilian activities
• Social locations
• Character progression
One of the most important goals is to make these systems connected.
For example, crime should not exist as a completely separate activity.
A criminal event could create gameplay for multiple types of players.
Police may investigate it.
Medical players may treat injured people.
Lawyers may become involved.
Businesses or civilians may be affected.
Other players may become witnesses.
The economy may also be affected depending on the situation.
I want different professions and organizations to depend on each other instead of every role existing inside its own isolated gameplay loop.
The same principle applies to the economy.
The goal is to build systems where money, employment, businesses, services, property, player activity, and other parts of the world interact with each other.
Player interaction will be one of the central parts of the game.
VR gives us the opportunity to make social roleplay much more physical and immersive than traditional keyboard-and-mouse RP games.
The project is planned around systems such as physical VR interaction, proximity communication, multiplayer activities, interactive objects, social environments, jobs, services, transportation, and persistent character progression.
The world should feel active because of the players inside it.
I don’t want every interesting situation to depend on scripted NPC missions.
Players should be able to create their own stories through their actions and interactions with other people.
Someone might spend their time building a career.
Another player might run a business.
Someone else might become a police officer.
Another player might become involved in organized crime.
Someone may simply spend time socializing, exploring, driving, shopping, studying, attending events, or participating in other activities.
The intention is to give players enough interconnected systems that unexpected roleplay situations can naturally happen.
Persistence is also an important part of the concept.
A character should feel like something the player develops over time rather than something that resets after every session.
Progression could involve things such as education, qualifications, employment, career development, finances, property, social reputation, organizations, and other persistent systems.
However, I want to be clear about one thing:
I am intentionally not publishing the complete game design publicly.
The actual project contains significantly more detailed mechanics, systems, progression ideas, roleplay mechanics, VR interactions, world systems, and other concepts than what I am describing here.
The information above is only a general overview of the direction of the project.
I will personally explain the complete concept, core mechanics, gameplay systems, progression structure, and other important details to serious developers who are interested in the project.

Experience with Unreal Engine networking and replication would be especially valuable.
Experience with Meta Quest or standalone VR development would also be extremely useful because performance needs to be considered from the beginning.
I do not want to build an unrestricted PC VR game first and then attempt to heavily downgrade it for Quest at the end.
Meta Quest is intended to be one of the core platforms, so architecture, rendering, environment complexity, networking, interaction systems, physics, player counts, and general performance need to be designed with those hardware limitations in mind.
PC VR support is also something I’m interested in, but Quest development is an important part of the project direction.
I also understand that the complete idea is large.
I am not expecting a small team to immediately build an enormous city with every planned system at once.
The development needs to be structured in stages.
The first goal would be to establish a strong technical foundation and create a focused playable version that proves the main concept.
An early development stage could focus on systems such as:
• Basic VR character interaction
• Multiplayer player movement and replication
• Voice and social interaction
• Character creation
• Accounts and player profiles
• Basic persistence
• A small initial environment
• Interactive buildings and objects
• Basic economy
• One or two functional professions
• Basic progression
• Initial police/crime interactions
• Server architecture
• Performance testing on Meta Quest
Once the foundation works correctly, additional professions, locations, organizations, activities, education systems, businesses, vehicles, economy features, criminal systems, social systems, and other content can gradually be added.
I would rather build a smaller working vertical slice with strong architecture than create a huge map filled with unfinished systems.
I’m looking for people who understand that this kind of project requires proper planning, iteration, testing, networking work, optimization, and long-term development.
I’m especially interested in developers who enjoy multiplayer systems and want to contribute to designing a project from an early stage.
I don’t want team members to simply receive isolated tasks without understanding the bigger picture.
I want the core team to be able to discuss technical decisions, gameplay architecture, scalability, VR interaction design, networking, performance, and how different systems should work together.
