Localization Options?

Do you guys think it’s acceptable to have a game where the audio is in English but for other langauges it just has the text localized but not the audio (so essentially subtitled)? Or is that a hard no these days? I know some games just do text on screen with no audio speech, but it’s quite hard for an indie dev to record a lot of speech audio in multiple languages. So, I think my options are:

  1. English text and audio, other languages with localized text only over the English audio
  2. English text and audio, other languages text only with no audio
  3. All text only with no audio in any language

Would love to get some recommendations!!

2nd option might be weird indeed.

I would recommend first or third option, when your project will be performing well you will be able to add more language anyway :innocent:

A lot of games these days have voice lines in English only, while having text localized.
For example, Marvel Rivals does this, and is arguably a sucessful new game.

I think you can go with the 1st option, keeping audio in English and localizing the text

Thanks for the advice!!
