Loading obj or fbx files during runtime?

build your project, you drag and drop a fbx file or obj file into a folder, when you load up your game is there a way that the game detect new objects? My idea was being able to have people load in custom obj fbx files to use like a garrys mod menu to build stuff.

yes, this pattern works. keep a drop folder next to the packaged build, watch it for new obj or fbx files, and spawn through a runtime mesh loader (uassets cant load loose at runtime since cooking bakes everything, so you need gltf/obj runtime import, not the content browser).

gotcha to plan for: the engine DirectoryWatcher module is editor-only and will not package, so the watcher has to be a runtime implementation with a debounce, file copies fire a burst of events and half-written files fail import if you grab them too early.

runtime directory watcher from fab does exactly the folder watch plus async texture load half of this, i pair it with a runtime mesh loader for the spawning side.
