Is there a way or planned anyways to load mods without Steam workshop? The whole upload process is tedious for the development cycle…
Plus I bet many private servers might wish to skip workshop altogether (easier private distribution or so)

Not sure if this information has been covered before but I could not find any hint.
The workshop is used to enforce clients download a mod that a server requires upon connect as far as I understand. Additionally, I really don’t think it is that bad - it is a fairly automatic process especially for the user which is the most important.
True but that is something that can be developed in a few hours of work anyway.
Maybe I’m not a big fan of Valve, but I just think that an independent alternative is good.
