I know this might be a weird or obvious question, and I didn’t know how to word it or even start searching for it. So if anyone could help me out with this Id much appreciate it.
If I buy a product such as a 3d model, either here from the market place, or anywhere online, and it is licensed to ME for use in any projects I sell such as closed source games; then later start a business “LLC” i guess (still learning how this stuff works), are my purchases usable by my business?
That is to say, If I buy a license to use a 3d model for my game and later start say an indi game studio, do I need to repurchase that model under the business name?
Direct answers or links both appreciated. Even just a starting point so I can learn this stuff.
This is best answered on answer hub … but basically if it is usable for commercial purposes than it can be used in the business as long as you are using it in the business. Basically you have to be working on the project for the assets purchased to be used on the project.
Check the legal section on Answerhub and if you are unsure ask your question … someone from legal will get in touch with you and answer it.
Marketplace assets are not software, they are assets. Employees of a company, including directors, cannot bring their personally owned assets into the company, the company needs to own the asset.
There can be different costs and licenses for individuals and companies and some of them may forbid transfer of the license and not allow cross use. I don’t think there is a general answer to this other than always to assume its not allowed unless the it’s clear from the license/agreement.
