In windows the editor takes, in my machine, around 10 seconds to load from the launcher.
But in Linux it takes easily 3 minutes or more.
Why? And what’s is more important, Are you working to fix this?
Do you launch with hot DerivedDataCache or not? I.e. are you seeing messages about compiling shaders?
Same for me
(gentoo amd64)
In windows on this machine UE runs mutch faster!
I’m also experiencing this problem on 4.12 (seems like a regression). Shaders are definitely not the cause, UE4Editor -server is also slow (several mins to start an empty map!)
Having the same issue here. The editor takes up to 3 minutes to start up on Ubuntu 16.04.
Everything else works fine.
Any workaround?
It also takes me 2 minutes to start on Arch with shaders already compiled, here’s my startup output.
Sounds like most of the time is spent on “asset discovery”:
LogAssetRegistry: Asset discovery search completed in 110.9584 seconds
We time’d startup of the editor in 4.11 and 4.12 and there indeed seems to be an almost 2x regression. Haven’t narrowed it down though.
3.5 months since this issue was reported… Any news?
Unreal 4.14 editor takes about 3min to open on Ubuntu 10.04, Then when you open a project it starts loading the whole editor again…
This makes it 6 min to start using anything.
And no resolution yet…
Back to using Unity…
I have the same problem on my Ubuntu 16.04 Laptop. My Projects takes up to 3 times as long as on my windows machine. I’m using 4.12.5.
I have exactly the same problem. Haven’t tested on Windows, but I am sure that it shouldn’t take 4 minutes for Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 to open UE4 editor.
Any update on this?
Currently the engine is unusable in this state. I have a recent CPU and graphics card, so my system is definitely not the problem.
I have the very same problem here, although I had never tried the windows version so I thought it was normal
And the fix is: https://github.com/EpicGames/UnrealEngine/pull/2778
same problem…
I’m using Unreal Engine 4.15 on Linux, and it loads within 30 seconds when I open a project directly:
If I open Unreal Editor first and then open a project, it takes twice as long (under a minute):
This is on a desktop with an Intel Core i7-4790 with 32GB of RAM and an nVidia GTX 470 with 6GB of RAM.
This issue continues with Unreal Editor 5.
Ryzen 5950X, Radeon 6900XT, 32GB RAM, Samsung SSD
Editor initially started to get all shaders compiled, then start again with:
- Linux: 1 Minute 5 Seconds
- Windows: 8 Sekonds !
This issue is documented here
The problem will be solved by the next release of glibc (3.34+)
Actually, you can use a patched version of glibc called glibc-dso.
It’s available on the AUR.
I’ve JUST installed it
my starting time for UE 4.27 falls from 1 m 11s to less than 15s
The fix is actually in glibc 2.35.
