I just started working with Unreal and came across a problem with building my lighting in 5.5. It keeps failing and additionally gives me map check errors. Even when I create an absolutely basic scene / objects. (see screenshot)
I read something about disabling VPN connections in previous versions but that didn’t help.
Hi! I think I might be having the same problem. I’ve been trying to troubleshoot it since the full release yesterday, but started encountering it during the Preview.
I’m in Unreal 5.5 and when I try to build the lighting it almost immediately fails. I’ve tried starting over with a new project or just even with the blank default project for Film & Video and I’ve been having the same issue. I’ve been searching for solutions but not finding anything that seemed to help.
The only information I’m getting from Unreal is a Map Check error. It reads:
WorldSettings_1 Maps need lighting rebuilt
Map check complete: 1 Error(s), 0 Warning(s), took 0.491ms to complete
I’ve been trying to see if adjusting any of the project settings would help me narrow down the problem, but no luck there.
I still have version 5.3.2 installed and opened a new blank default project for Film & Video and tried building in that and it worked just fine as lighting builds had been working for me with 5.3 and 5.4. So, it seems to be a 5.5 related issue.
I have an M2 Max Mac Studio 96GB Memory running Sequoia 15.1 and Xcode 16.1
Hope this provides a little more context for a related (if not the same) issue. Maybe someone has solved this?
