LiDAR Point Cloud Plugin - Unknown Extension

Hello guys, i have an hard time importing point cloud data into Unreal 5.6.

I have a lidar dataser i want to use inside Unreal, but i’m not able to import it. The documentation says both .e57 and .las are supported formats source, but when i try to import them i get an error saying “unknown extension”

I searched all day and i’m not able to find a solution. I tried both in a MacOS and Windows systems.

And obviously the LiDAR plugin is enabled.

Experiencing the same issue on 5.6
Looks like they broke point cloud importing/exporting in this release.

Hey there @trenoduro and @X-perto Welcome to the community! I’m seeing the same. It looks like the LiDAR point cloud plugin is broken for 5.6. If possible, you can make a bug report here:

https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/support/report-a-bug

Same here, did some testing and .las/.laz files are broken on my end.

Upgrading 5.5 project with previously imported point clouds to 5.6 → crash.
Trying to import .las/.laz files on fresh 5.6 project → unknown file type “las”.
Chatter on other forums mention same issue for many users.

I have submitted a bug report by following @SupportiveEntity 's link and hope dearly Epic will look into this for 5.6.1

’ve just tried to import an e57 file, and come up with the same error. This is on UE 5.7.

Have submitted a bug report, although there was no log file to attach to it. :person_shrugging:
