Licensing for university research projects

Hello, we are from a local University in Hong Kong. We are planning to launch a new research project which utilize VR environment to investigate the attitudes of people towards some urban and architectural design features.

At this point, we are considering using UnrealEngine to create the VR 3D environment for the research and survey.

The project is nothing commercial and there is no plan to create any commercial application out of the research project. However, we will be seeking funding from the local government to support the project.

For the project itself, after we have created the VR environment, we will invite participants to experience the environment with the aid of VR headsets. They will then be asked about their attitudes towards the urban and architectural design features within the virtual environment. As a result, we would like to know if there will be charges when we utilize the VR 3D environment created with UnrealEngine in our project.

Hello Jerry,

Please continue to refer to the Unreal Engine EULA for on-commercial usage terns.

However, from your description, as long as your project does not generate revenue in excess of the defined terms in the Unreal Engine EULA and continues to be complaint with other usage conditions, you should be clear to use Unreal Engine.

Please let me know if you have further questions. The project sounds awesome!

It is great that these topics are still relevant. After all, I am now also worried about my research paper and it is important to me. Writing your own project or research is always difficult and exciting. At first, I was afraid to write. But in cases where there is fear and misunderstanding, you can get tips and help on the site where professionals work. And you summarize buy APA research paper and various other types of work. I think it’s a great opportunity to get your job done quickly and efficiently. Of course, this can be obtained as help and advice if you want to do everything yourself.

There are no research constraints on using UE4 - however as stated previously, read the EULA carefully - as there ARE a number of other cases that are also excluded (though they are very limited to basically anything that is life critical… it’s a game engine after all). You need to earn over USD1 million (lifetime) before you are required to pay royalties. Also - what is not clear is whether these licensing agreements are able to be adjusted retrospectively. But for research, this hopefully wouldn’t be a problem.
