I am an experienced gameplay programmer looking for a small team to join or an artist to partner up with.
About me:
I have been working in the games industry for more than 10 years.
I have bootstrapped, grown and sold my own games studio with over 20 employees over the course of the last 10 years (the company still exists).
I am a seasoned gameplay programmer, IT infastructure manager, product developer and studio director.
I am working with Unreal for a little over a year now and I am still learning, with a focus on gameplay and multiplayer.
I have solid C++ skills.
I would like to join a small team or partner with another person to improve my skillset and understanding of Unreal, without committing on a fulltime job. I am not interested in a salary at this point. I am currently doing this for fun and I would like to work with like-minded people. I specifically notice that I reach my limits working alone without anyone that can contribute to the visual aspects of game development.
I am open minded when it comes to graphical style and genre, but ideally I would like to work on super small scale games or protoypes with a multiplayer aspect. I would prefer to publish games as fast as possible instead of working on something with excessive scope that never releases.
Feel free to ask for more info.
Update: I have joined a team now, thanks everyone for your messages!
Pleased to meet you, I will introduce myself:
I am a 31 years old pianist and music composer, 17+ years of piano practice and studying music. I also do pixel arts since recently, and wrote a story and game mechanics for our own game (a fellow BPer and I) which is, as for now, on hold.
sorry that you feel this way, I can assure you that my post is genuine. I do not think that I have been unclear in that I am offering services for free. I am looking to team up or partner with someone, which would ultimately mean splitting profits if there will be revenue. (Since I have been there I know that its a long road thats why I do not care about that part too much right now) I do not offer my services as a freelancer for free, so you might have misunderstood me there.
What I can offer, is sound preparation, a bit of graphics work and to be the “elder” in a team, remove doubts and keep people focused and determined to push through blockages. Especially if they remain stuck on some thought loops and procrastinate, or hit a creative block.
When a team starts side tracking or starts arguing, that’s where I come in and help people get past that as a team that supports each other.
I can blueprint a lot, but, with your C++ skills, my “coding skills” should only be in emergencies, materials, character blueprints and simple animation setups.
Not headed for the games industry personally. I am interested in a one off co-op because you know what you are doing and come across as someone good to work with.
Hi, thanks for your message. I wasnt even aware of the Mega Jam and quickly checked it out. It does look interesting and if I find someone to work with and the timing is right yeah why not.
About your suggestion to function as a mentor / motivator I am not sure at this point to be honest. I would prefer to join an existing team or single person that can do the art and graphics side of things. Any “elderly” advice comes later imho (or you start your own team and function as the manager). But the two of us joining at this point is too early I think, since my main motivation is to work with someone who can deliver all of the models / animations / graphics that I can then bring to life.
