lets say a small team (3-5 people) made a full length feature film using unreal engine and earn over $1M (maybe they got it to show on netflix / theatrical release), do they have to pay royalties for that?

with games theres always recurring sales and in-game purchases maybe and lasts forever but not with films, if the movie campaign is dead then it doesnt generate money anymore. what is the solution for that?
