“Join us live this Friday as MustardPlays speaks with Fortnite team members Saxs Persson and Dan Walsh on all things moderation in UEFN and Fortnite Creative”
Why are creators allowed to copy the titles of popular maps and garner thousands of players off them? When people search up their favorite maps, these copies show up instead and nothing is done about it unless the original creator reports it.
-
What is the stance on IP theft? People commonly use properties they don’t own to get a large portion of players. Because said brands and franchises are so big, they already have a large following, meaning original content with no IP usage whatsoever is going to be left behind.
-
What is Epic’s stance on copy/paste content? Creators who make original content are reassured that their content will get treated better BECAUSE it’s original and innovative, but the opposite of that is shown when red vs blue maps, pillars maps, and box pvp maps all are given high positions in Discover, including Epic’s Picks quite a few times.
-
Do bigger creators have more leeway in their maps with what is or isn’t allowed? I’ve myself seen big content creators like Nick Eh 30 using POTC’s IP in the thumbnail of his map. We’ve also seen Geerzy using a misleading way to get more favorites. There are more examples and rumors that go around as well. This is a really bad example for newer creators, making them assume “since this big creator doesn’t get punished, maybe I’ll be fine doing it too.” This is really bad for the Fortnite Ecosystem.
-
Are there plans to make the Creator Rules more “in creator’s faces” (for a lack of a better term)? Because of my points above, I feel the rules should be more seriously kept. IP being unusable outside of their specified templates. Misleading content completely done with. Original content being relevant as it was meant to be.
Rules need to be specific, clear, and upheld by their enforcers. Not ignored and left unpunished.
- Bonus question: Why does it feel FNC/Creative is being left behind for UEFN? It almost doesn’t make sense to bother putting it in the descriptions of streams like these, because FNC creators don’t get nearly as much love and respect they deserve. Creative is capable of far more than it’s given credit for, but it gets left behind for UEFN maps and has barely any Discover chance.
I hope to see some answers to questions of mine and other users during the livestream. Thank you for reading.
Is it allowed to have more than one account in my name to create maps?

Safe Harbour laws, Epic doesn’t go out of their way to take down theft they deem to be theft. Leave it on the IP holder to flag it first so the creator is liable. Pretty sure this is well known in the space but people still have trouble understanding it. Although I will point out Epic recently acquired LOCI, a program to analyze and catch 3rd party FAB assets that may or may not contain IP theft before the creator has a chance to publish the project. Before the creator has a chance to monetize off of stolen IP. Don’t know if this is limited to just FAB

You would hope bigger creators get permission to use IP, although I’ve seen foul practices used in well-known creator experiences that come back with a “No Action Taken”. This rolls back to the first take however, its not a matter of “more leeway”, big creator or not, Epic wont be the first to step in for IP infringement.
3.5 Geerzy using misleading ways to garner more favorites was dealt with a while back, the severity of punishment is unknown
- Good point, most rules Epic upholds and enforces feels more like a suggestion to their own moderators. Not sure if this is a problem with poor-training, AI use or a limited team. Either way they need to be more strict
4.5 Im not sure if its against rules to make, lets say, a TMNT-themed map outside of the TMNT templates. Sure you will lose out on TMNT features and the revenue split. But whos to say Nickelodeon cant decide to collab and give permission to a large dev team to create a TMNT experience on their own whim and terms not bound to a TMNT-set project.
Are there any plans to utlize the screenshot you sometimes receive on rejections for stuff other than Content Within Island, (eg a Photo showing a red arrow of what violated the rules in the Thumbnail).
Also are there any plans to make screenshots/explanation from moderators more common or a requirement for ambiguous rejections that wouldn’t be easy for a creator to find out what the issue was
for example something like this will be hard to understand where the source is
Of course some rejection reasons are pretty clear like 4.2.2.
you must not solicit support for your Creator Code anywhere within your island, including a pre-game lobby, or in its metadata (name, description, thumbnail, loading screen text, or Discover video).
and I would understand the rejection not being super specific on it.
Will the guard/npc device ever get the music and voicelines the battle royale guards have?
I agree with asking this. I asked and was not given an answer and this is completely unfair to know if this is ok to do. Myself and friends are not doing it due to believing its against the rules but maps are doing this and are getting players as a result. We need a concrete answer if this is ok as its making the system split.
How come when I report a map with obvious TOS violations I get a notification that says “no action taken”. I stopped reporting for this reason. It was a waste of time. I finally got you to take action on one map last October, you took it down. The same map was activated 18 hours later with the exact same TOS violation, I reported again. No Action Taken…that is when I gave up. Haven’t reported a map since. If you don’t care why should I?
Hi, my question is about how you handle maps that are tailored to specific regions but shouldn’t be displayed. For example, a map designed for Middle Eastern audiences that shouldn’t be shown elsewhere—what measures do you take to restrict its visibility
Hello MustardPlays and Epic Games.
I have a questions with your upcoming or released tool, LOCI, into UEFN and Fortnite.
How will LOCI be used for IP moderation in thumbnails?
I have seen many UEFN made maps, especially in the Rocket Racing gaming collection, have thumbnails and assets that have stolen IP assets. And if LOCI isn’t responsible for thumbnail moderation, Are you continuing to find more assets to improve IP moderation?
@Amanda.Schade I do not know if this question would be appropriate to ask in the live event, which is why I am asking in the forum instead," What is the difference between UE and UEFN ? “” Do I need to learn UEFN because I am serious about learning UE for my career ? "
Being said, my personal opinion about Fortnite is, "I do not like Fortnite or any games whose main source of income is microtransactions. " This has affected my learning because there was a course during my lessons and one of the mentors in Epic Games course asked me to check out UEFN and I did not.
I mean no disrespect to anyone who works hard every day for a fortnight and please forgive me if it did came across that way to you. All I want to know is," Will learning UEFN plays vital role for someone like me who is currently learning UE5 at least 10–11 hours a day" ?
I’ve come to the conclusion recently that the first report you sent has to be sent to a half team of AI atleast. Because you can Appeal reports with a more descript, detailed reason that probably gets sent to actual humans.
Considering LOCI is more for FAB ASSETS, or Assets in general. And not thumbnails, at least thumbnails weren’t mentioned in the post.
LOCI is great because it catches IP theft before the publisher can publish the map
Before they can gain money. It follows Epic’s stances on taking down IP theft. They wait/don’t act until the IP handler flags it themselves. They don’t have to do this however with LOCI because the game is yet to be published. Would be cool if it included thumbnails but we’ll have to see
/shrug
UEFN is Unreal Editor For Fortnite. Its a tool for Fortnite Island Creators to make Fortnite maps and publish soley into the Fortnite ecosystem.
UEFN is a extremely dumbed down and stripped version of UE, many UE features are not included.
UE, Unreal Engine is for full-fledged games.
If you are a UEFN Creator, UE can come in handy, but even then most creators dont touch it, but if you are a UE Dev, you almost will never touch UEFN.
I understand your stance, but Epic Games is by far the fairest company when it comes to Transactions. The deals they have within Fortnite would probably blow your mind as well.
Besides that, in 2024 they paid out $325 million dollars to Fortnite Island Creators, not even accounting Pro player payouts
Thank you very much for taking your time and answering my questions. I really appreciate it.
