Layered Terrain from previous versions with Retop used is killing the editors ability to edit

Ok this is a little complex to explain:

  • I created many projects back in 4.0 era and in some cases used Re topology brush during the terrain creation in areas I wanted to locked

  • Now years later I have converted this projects over to 5.0 with the layered terrain system.

  • if you have layered terrain the retopology brush will not work it is showing red and gives you a dialog box saying it not going to work.

  • This is but if you try to edit paint sculpt or smooth that terrain the editor runs at 1 FPS until you move the brush off that area, you can’t see that area so it is like having hidden land mines in your map that cause this issue.

Question: Is there a tool to remove the retopology data from the terrain data?

If not can we create a way to fix this can you write code that automatically removes or gives you an option to remove it if you convert the terrain to layered.

Could you change the retop brush to when used on a layered terrain to automatically show the repto’d sections and allow it to erase this data to clean it?

If you run into this make a copy of the level and everything in it and see if you can disable layers with out losing all your work. If you are using water you will have disable layers clean off the terrain then enable layers again.

Short answer is - disable layers and the re top brush will work and you can use that to fix up the terrain. My suggestion is never to use this brush for any reason, just using the other brushes.
