Lava in Unreal Engine | Personal R&D Project | Houdini to Unreal

Spent a week or so in my free time doing some R&D for getting a decent looking Lava simulation in Houdini and then bring it into Unreal.

The Lava itself is a 140GB Alembic with baked temperature & noise attributes which drive the material in Unreal Engine.

The Gas simulation is driven by the lava sim in Houdini and then exported as a VDB for use with SVTs in Unreal Engine.

Hi there @DylserX,

Hope you’re well and having a wonderful week so far!

Had to just pop in to say this looks incredible. Really smooth and genuinely satisfying to watch. Did you create this just as a skill gain or to include it in a future project?

Thanks! you too!

Mainly as an R&D to test some non water sim stuff out in Houdini but also to see how far i could push it once in Unreal, I was thinking about doing a little project in the future with some lava haha

If you end up creating that lava project, be sure to @ me. I’d love to see it
