Admittedly I’m using an older MB & OS (single-core AMD CPU running Win Vista 32-bit SP2) but I did not expect the Installer for the launcher to outright fail; unfortunately it has, twice now (two separate d/l’s to avoid corruption). Proc: 2-click the .msi file and nothing, RMB->Install & nothing, just a 1.5 second hourglass in both cases, no processes or apps show up in Task Manager, nada, zip, kaput. Any ideas and/or suggestions?
Hoping to get back into UE work after a long absence (UE 3.5 & UT2004).
Does your system meet the minimum requirements? Here is the requirements from the FAQ:
Unfortunately UE4 will not run on a 32-bit system. The games you create can be 32-bit, but the editor requires 64-bit. You may need to upgrade your copy of Windows in order to run the editor.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Hope it is not too difficult for yo to upgrade.
"UE4 will run on desktops and laptops below these recommendations, but performance may be limited. " – I was hoping to slip through crack (heh). No upgrade in my future, unfortunately.
I did manage to get the installer app to launch (I had to Unblock it in the file Properties) but ended up with Error Message:
" installation package is not supported by processor type. Contact your product vendor."
Just an FYI for others in a similar boat with a 32-bit paddle.
Your single-core AMD CPU is 64bit ready ?
If you can upgrade to Windows 7 x64 , you will get better performence PC & you will run Unreal Engine 4 Editor.
Yep, it’s a 64-bit AMD, I’ve run 64-bit Ubuntu on it, so it’s feasible, just not a financial option for me ATM. Another is that a lot of my essential “legacy” apps like Photoshop are 32-bit, and I’m not sure all my work files would make the transfer successfully.
Follow-up question: I’ve seen mentioned a Linux UE port, is that in the works? I much prefer it to Windows with the exception of a few apps I use a lot, but can live with that.
