Launcher says Engine not installed when it is

I’m deploying Epic Games Launcher and Engine to classrooms however I’ve ran into an issue. Both the Launcher and Engine work fine separately but when I open the Games Launcher it says the Engine is not installed (when it is, it opens up ok). The only fix I have found (from an older post) here on the epic forum is to;

  • Rename the Engine folder “UE_5.4” to say “old.UE_5.4” (location of engine: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\old.UE_5.4)
  • Open the Game Launcher and start downloading the Engine.
  • Once it starts it creates a new “UE_5.4”, stop the download then move the files/folders from “old.UE_5.4” into the newly created “UE_5.4”
  • Wait until it verifies (which takes a long time)
  • Then it appears.

Is this a common issue or does anybody know of a way I can resolve this? I’ve tried a few time/various machines and its always the same thing, checked the permission looks ok.

Engine 5.4.4
Launcher 1.11.0.0 (I think)

just try to reinstall the launcher or verify files

Ah, I didnt try re-installing the Laucher just the engine. I cant verify the engine as its greyed out, the only way to verify the engine is to eitehr re-install or do to what I suggested in my original post (rename, download, stop and move the files over). Bit of a process and the verify takes a long time.

I was hoping there was an easier fix as I have a few rooms.

How did you get access to the offline installer? I’ve been trying to find it for Unreal Engine and (more importantly) Twinmotion, but the dev portal download pages are blank.

Afaik there is no offline installer. There is a basic guide here:

But I used psadt to deploy, thankfully somebody posted up a guide here you can follow:

Like I mentioned in the original post, both launcher and engine do work but the engine isnt being picked up by the launcher for whatever reason. I included the fix in the op but its not great…maybe I’ve missed something. If you do fix it, let me know how you get on.

Either way, its time consuming and takes forever especially for it not to end up working right (at least for me anyway).

There is also this post that might be useful but I didnt go down this route
