If its not one thing its two or three. Projects getting corrupted out of nowhere, blueprints working yesterday but crashing today, maps with hours of work opened fine yesterday and saved on closeout, but wont open today. ……now the issue is that I cannot get the engine, any engine, to install from the launcher. The button blinks when I press it but nothing happens! I figured Github would be of help but only the latest version is available and I need 5.5. I guess I am venting because with all of these issues, reworks and problems, there is no way I will ever be able to get a project to publishing.
Here is a very similar 4th issue, “maps with hours of work opened fine yesterday and saved on closeout, but won’t open today”. Certain of my SAVED files are loading intermittently - I have screenshots showing that the MOVIEFILES folder loaded but the MOVIES file did not, and the next restart saw neither folder load, and the next restart just the MOVIEFILES folder, and then the next restart after that I have just the MOVIES folder, and when folders eventually do load they have incomplete data. I notice that the expected FOLDERS and FILES within DO appear in EXPLORER. I cleared my SAVED DATA folder but that did not change the intermittent loading behavior. Where are the folders and files loading from?
why can’t you use 5.5.1? there’s no reason to keep using a previous minor. 5.5.1 has bug fixes so you really want to move to it.
if your projects are getting corrupted out of nowhere, then there’s likely a problem with your computer as that’s not normal.
are you using some cvs to store your project? you can revert stuff.
i’ve heard some people had issues installing the engine through the launcher, i dont recall the fix, but i think is fixable. it might have to do with antivirus and operative system updates.

your post seems to more of a vent than a serious call for help, which i get it i feel your frustration. but i think if you really want to solve your issues, you’ll get better results opening a post for each of those issues (instead of one with many issues). and expanding on your setup. versions, os, ram, gpu, disk, etc.
UPDATE: I have deleted and reinstalled the Launcher and Engine, and I have recovered my files from a backup. HOWEVER: (a) I will do my back up every few hours now, (b) I will check again tomorrow to see if the re-installed Engine is working as expected, (c) Tomorrow also I will do a full scan to see if there might be any malicious files from outside that have crept into my computer.
My issue is resolved now after deleting and reinstalling the Launcher and the Game Engine. I am thinking that somehow the source files on my device might have become confused.

you said your files get corrupted often. and now saying that it reinforces this idea to me.
please verify your filesystem, and your ram.
you can download a live cd (or pendrive) to run some tests on your system https://www.system-rescue.org/
also when you say backup what do you refer? copying files?
use a cvs like git, svn, or perforce. there are free ones so there’s no reason not to use them.
