I tried to install the engine in Windows Technical Preview, but whether I use the launcher or compile the editor from source (using the 4.5 branch, It doesn’t compile in 4.4), it just crashes instantly on launch. I have no doubt support for Windows 10 will be added at one point (I mean, it’s supposed to be the future of the Windows platform), but right now it’s completely unusable. When I compile from source Visual can’t show me where in the code the crash happened, so I guess the problem is in an external library loaded by both the editor and the launcher. Is there any way to have it run on the Technical Preview ?
Hi leops,
The engine should run on Windows 10 and we have had several users successfully use it. Can you post your dxdiag here? Additionally are you using the launcher build or github source build?
Here is the dxdiag: DxDiag.txt
I have tried both the launcher build (but the launcher itself is crashing) and the github build from the 4.5 branch (as I said, compilation failed in 4.4 but I didn’t really try to find out why)
Additionally, I’m using an almost clean install of Windows 10 (I only installed Visual and a couple of other software), but I installed it from an existing Windows 8.1 install (which ran the editor and the launcher perfectly well).
Do you have any graphics card other than your integrated card? If so you will need to disable your integrated card so that the editor uses the correct graphics card.
I tried to disable the integrated Intel card (I have another Gefore graphic card). But it crashed the windows interface, and I now get a BSOD on boot. Time to reinstall windows, if my computer doesn’t explode in a giant popcorn until then.
Unfortunately that sounds like it may be an error on the side of Windows 10. You may wish to contact them for more assistance. We won’t be able to do much until the editor is run on the Geforce instead of the integrated card.
I executed a refresh, and now the launcher works and the editor seems to start correctly. That’s weird, since a refresh and an upgrade from windows 8.1 are supposed to have the same effect (keep personal file, remove all programs).
I can get windows 10 to work at all I re-downloaded it made it run in windows 8 mode Ect… It just doesn’t work for me ;/ Any help please…
Hi StopItRonStop!,
Do you mean that the launcher will not work in Windows 10 or that the Editor will not run in Windows 10? What steps are you taking to reproduce this on your end? At what point does the error occur? Do you get any warnings or error messages?
both. No It just says. “Unreal Engine 4 has stopped working” then crashes. Also this happens when I start the launcher same thing ;/
Can you post your dxdiag along with a copy of the crash logs? They can be found at \Unreal Projects\PROJECTNAME\saved\logs\
There’s the one of the project and what happens when it crashes.
here’s the debug of the launcher (Its crashing also.)
