Laserscan and image combining issue

Not sure if this is a real bug. But even if it isn’t it is a behaviour that is not easy to understand.

Scenario:

I have a laserscan and a fotoset (ca. 1100) of a fairly big building. Both of them are good, they work individually and combined. Now I did some unrelated testing and realized that if I want to align images with a scan, it only works if there is no other component present. As soon as there is either the scan or the images as individual components in the project, scan and images will not align into one combined component. This is 100% reproducable.

Hello Götz,

please excuse our late response.

I tried to reproduce your problem but Idid not encounter the same issue. Can you please describe in more detail the steps you made?

Hi Zuzana,

ok, I’ll split it up in bullet points:

  • I have a laserscan and an image set of a building

  • both align fine individually, as in the images separately (without any images in the project) and the scan separately (without any scan files in the project)

  • they align into one project only as long as there is no other component present

  • if there is either the individual image set or the individual laserscan present as a pre-aligned component, they will not merge into one combined component

Is that clearer now?

Hello Götz,

It is clear, thank you. However, I did not encounter this issue when reproducing these steps on one of our datasets. Laserscan and images aligned into one component even if one or more components were present in the project.

Did you make sure that all your inputs are enabled for alignment? Can you please send a screenshot of your Alignment settings?

Also, would it be possible to share the dataset, project file, project folder and exact reprosteps with us so we can reproduce the problem?

Hi Zuzana,

yes of course everything was enabled. Apart from the components present in the project, I did not change anything during the experiment. I will look if I can upload the files, they might be too big though…

What I did not mention is that I imported the component from a rcalign file. But in theory that should not matter, right?
