Laptop screen dims when UE 4.12 runs

I Have Alienware laptop with me. I am running UE 4.12 on Windows 10, whenever I am on battery the system screen dims to its lowest. The only way to get over this is to plug in the power. I check if my power saver is switched on, but no.

Does anyone have the same problem?

Hello akshay,

Does the screen dim as soon as you open UE4? If not, is your battery’s charge getting low whenever the dim occurs? You may want to check the advanced power saving settings in your Control Panel. While Power Saver may not be on, your current profile may have a preference to dim the screen when other components are using a lot of power or if the battery is getting low.

Edit: If neither of these help, what laptop are you using? The model number should be enough unless it was a customizeable build. In that case, a DXDiag would be helpful.

Yes, as soon as I open the UE4 the screen dims. No that doesn’t happen. All my advanced power setting are at its max. This started happening after the recent update, it was working fine in UE 4.12.4.

I am using Alienware 13 R2.

Unfortunately I’m not managing to get the same results with a laptop with similar specs as yours. If you have a moment, can you take a screenshot of your Power plan and the advanced settings for it so I can make sure I’m using the same type of thing?

We haven’t heard from you in a while, akshay. Are you still experiencing these issues? If so, can you please provide the information I requested? In the meantime, I’ll be marking this issue as resolved for tracking purposes.

Hi,

Sorry was caught up with something else.

I have attached the Screenshots.

Unfortunately I still haven’t been able to get this issue to occur. Would it be possible for you to check to see if this issue occurs with 4.13 Preview 1 and/or 4.11? It would be helpful to know if it’s isolated to newer versions.

Ok, I will let you know tomorrow.

I’ve been experiencing this as well. It doesn’t happen every time, but intermittently, while running 4.12 will get dimming that lasts about a second. It only happens in the Unreal Editor though

I have tested it in 4.13 Preview 3, there is no screen dimming. But its still there in 4.12.5

Thank you for testing that. If it’s fixed in the Preview, hopefully it won’t be present in 4.13’s full release either. If it does come back with the full release, please feel to free to open this question back up. Otherwise, we won’t be entering a bug report if it’s not occurring in our latest version.
