Landscape Tool is outdated (feature suggestion list)

Currently its really hard to work with landscape tool and produce good looking landscapes, fast and without using external tools or brushes. The tool is outdated and it needs a series of features:

  • 3D sculpting: Building visibility holes and having to add manually props to patch them is very time consuming. Also 2D sculpting prevents the building of floating islands and inverted steep slopes (where top is wider than the bottom). 3D sculpting will solve all of these issues. Extra props if you can manipulate the landscape voxels during runtime like Project Spark.
  • Better blending for paint tool:
When painting or blending layers together, you always get a circle as the brush. Lowering the intensity of the brush, the painting/ blending should look more natural, adjusting to the normals of the layer. This was done great in Far Cry 5 PC editor if you want a reference.
    - A tool to make realistic mountains: Currently, mountain erosion doesn’t feel intuitive, again look at Far Cry 5 editor for a comprehensive example of tools that could erode a cliff with a click of a button (this process is used a lot btw)
  • Push-Pull tool (aka “hill maker”). The ability to grab terrain points and push them up or down is needed to quickly be able to alterations and fine tuning to your design. Extra kudos if the editor is responsive to click and drag, and mouse wheel defines falloff intensity so the process is ultra-fast. Iirc, this tool also exists in Far Cry 5 editor.
  • Live Edit support: When making edits to the landscape, they should show in live edit. This will save a massive amount of time to level designers that build landscape and architecture together while using live edit. Extra props if you can manipulate the landscape from live edit too.
  • Path tool: Currently it feels very unintuitive to make a path spline. The process needs to be faster and simpler, with edits also not relying on some random setting seeing in details panel, but on the viewport itself (all controls should be there). Path tool should really be, here is a list of paths, click one, click on landscape you get a pointer of node 1, then your cursor 's position becomes node 2 and the path drags to wherever your cursor is. After clicking again, the path is made and you can continue clicking or exit.

- Improved splines support Splines essentially need to be outside Landscape mode and be simpler to setup and figure out. There needs to be a gallery of splines you can set (like foliage) and then you click somewhere and you get the same feedback as path tool above, so you know the spline is being made. Also extra controls on the spline for the tangents, the ability to delete a tangent, and have tangents for all axis (aka like the road tool in Rocket Racing).

Oh, and would love if the editor didn’t freeze for 0.7 seconds everytime you go in or out of landscape mode. Doing that more that frequently when building breaks our flow.
