Landscape poking through spline mesh road

Hi, looking to add a spline path to my landscape. I made a road in Rhino, imported into Unreal as an FBX and added it via the spline tool no issues. However, while it is deforming the landscape when moved up and down, the landscape is still coming through my road. It appears there is a bounding box of some sorts defining how and where the landscape deforms to the object, is there a way to control it? Does collision effect this at all?

I have the same issue in 5.3.

For me this happens when I use the “Deform landscape to splines” option and I look at it from afar. My mesh is even manually higher and raised, but it still happens.
Like here I look close up and the road is above the landscape:


But when I fly up it clips.
