Hi!
I’d like to recreate this scene as a lesson to “Hone the skills”
I started off, learned a lot in the process, but looks like it’s rather hard to work with terrain to get the shapes I need, there are also some asset problems I’m facing, so trying to remodel stuff inside the engine.
My question is : What do you suggest, from experience, would it be more convenient to use plains or terrain for this project, and maybe some assets you can point out that would help.
Other than this , any type of advice would be welcome.
Thanks <3
Hello ForsakenEcho,
I think that this Infinity Blade asset pack will get you off to a great start!
Using Landscape might be overkill, but if you find yourself wanting to sculpt the terrain It’s the way to go. Otherwise using Planes (or just big flat meshes) should work well. Once you open that asset pack you’ll be able to see how they did things.
Looking forward to seeing what you do!
This is just static meshes, not terrain modelling.
If you rummage around the marketplace you’ll no doubt find some very similar kits.
Thanks <3
Yeah I thought about this pack , but seeing them in some projects I’ve investigated, the meshes seem quite low quality, that’s why I tried not to use them , as I wanted to have a high quality end result.
But will try it out how they look, and how “deformable” they are!
You’re welcome.
Agreed that the Infinity Blade assets are very low quality. (Like, “mobile game from 2008 low quality” )
On the other end of the quality spectrum, I did spot this Megascan pack
You might wanna take a look at this
finished on sale today, I think.
It’s nice quality.
I have all this downloaded my problem with megascan assets , if not faced forward they’re completely hollow on the back, resulting in weird shadows if the sun is facing from the back and it’s not really compatible with “Gameplay” where character will go behind it.
Maybe you know any obvious workarounds about this? Some of them worked if I fliped and just merged them but not every one of them. Thanks <3
Owh thank you!
great pack but sadly can’t afford for now, will have to go along learning a bit of modeling to achieve the results for now I guess
Owww, just missed it. It was on sale. Try typing ‘ruins’ into a marketplace search.
Will take a look, thanks. Also surfing around sketchfab and other free 3d model websites, not 100% matches, but getting something out of them aswell.
Also since we’re here. Displacement sometimes really badly streches the texture, any workaround it?
I’d recommend being VERY careful before getting models from anywhere other than the marketplace. They might look ok, but they’re usually rubbish. Most artists have no idea what ‘game ready’ and ‘low poly’ mean.
If you want to use the new mesh tools to displace a cube-wall into a rugged looking brick thing, you’ll have ramp the polys RIGHT UP. Literally 100k or more, while you do the displacement, then resample it down again.
Let me rummage around and find something…
This artist’s stuff is very good, this one’s one sale
The pack has a lot of ways of making the texture of the bricks look different. Clever materials.
might not be quite the style you’re looking for. Otherwise you just have to ‘favorite’ some and wait, and get good at Blender
This is very quick
and if you type ‘blender ruins’ into youtube you’ll find a lot of stuff .
Tried starting out Maya when I was a kid like 10-12 years ago probably, didn’t work out and was ■■■■■■ with the process, but I think it’s time to let that go and give blender another try thanks for all the help man, I really hope I get this done to show you guys!
There’s some useable stuff in the Paragon props as well…
Oh… MY… GOD, THANK YOU for this video <3 You know I’m quite a noob when the level of simpicity of this video just blows me away
