I was having the same problem. As pointed out its due to the initial weight values inside the Layer Blend nodes. So after you set these initial weights for all layers in the node then in the paint tool(In modes window) you have to click on the “+” sign for each layers and save the info to any content folder. These steps worked for me. I am attaching the step image in documentation.
