Landscape and Spline Issues

Hello every one, I am new here in these Forums, so I hope I am in the right area to ask for some help here. I am new to Unreal 4 and been struggling with a few areas. First off, I have been having problems getting my landscape textures to work, for example getting snow on the mountain tops to dirt and grass to the midway of the hills to possible dirt and mud near the water areas. All I keep getting is landscape that keeps looking like all rock that has been eroded for many years with no change in appearances in it after making many, many changes to it. Running out of info over Google and these forms on how to fix this one.

Second, I am having issues with dealing with Splines. Again, every place I look at via Google gets me no place real fast. I have been trying to make a nice river with a huge waterfall. First I thought of using tiles, but this came to look so un-natural and did not look right. Finally I ran across a forum that some one was asking about the same issue on making a road with splines and Blueprints. Being so ignorant with Blueprints and having memory issues does not help me here so I finally came to this site Landscape Splines | Unreal Engine Documentation which does give me most of what I need to get done. Problems here I am still dealing with and hope some one can help me with this part.

  1. Where is this so called Apply Splines to Landscape button? I can get the splines to display the water for my river using the landscape editor but not able to get it to paint to the landscape. How do I get it to get placed to my land scape in Unreal 4.8?

  2. Another issue I noted I am able to do the same with a path I like to add to my project. Again I having the same painting issue to the land as I am with the River. Another problem I found here is, how can I keep my path the dirt I want with out the river changing the design of my path by changing my dirt to water?

I have been struggling with this now for the past 3 weeks. I be so truly grateful for any help offered.

Here is an update to my post here. I have now figured how to solve issue one on getting the spline to paint to the land where I need it. Now I still need some help with the second issue. Any one have any suggestions’ that may help?

Kinda interested to know how you got #1 to work?

Thank you for responding. How did I get the Splines to paint to the ground was not an easy one for me to figure out since it is more like a crash course for me to learn Unreal 4. First off, after I had placed the first spline marker on the ground I then made a second one which formed the placement for the item I needed. Second I clicked on the green marker on the ground. Now the tricky part which I found to be rather easy. I headed over the details tab under Landscape Spline Mesh section, opened up SplineMeshes then 0. Where it shows Mesh is where I added the mesh material that I needed and it worked after switching back to Place tab from the Landscape tab.

Since I was working with a SM_Path, the material was layed out the wrong direction so to fix this I headed to the Scale section and changed the Forward Axis to Y and this corrected the problem.

As for the River, I believe I may need to create a separate mesh for that in order to make it work. This is one reason I had posted this question to see if any one is able to offer any suggestions on how to make a good river and waterfall. I see many of them finished in videos, but never any instructions on how to create them.

Thanks for the clarification. I wish I could help with the rest, but you’ve actually given me a little help. Thanks for that.

I am glad that it helped you out with parts of any issues you may be having.
