I am making a multiplayer game using blueprints. I have added steam subsystems/sockets and have gotten it working with two machines in my house. I tried adding LAN with a checkbox but when I try finding the lobby it doesn’t appear on the clients search.
Important to note both machines I’m using have the same IP address/ (I checked before testing this)
I follow these two tutorials to get the steam systems working.
Below is my blueprints related to the hosting and lobby finding.
Hey, You are currently using the Advanced Session Plugin, which is a steam specific plugin as far as I know, I am not sure how it works with LAN, but a satisfying answer to your question is that you do not need a 2nd build for supporting lan only, you need to make a structure that allow eather or, its as simple as making a new bool “usingSteam” and right before the “Create Advcanced Session” make a branch on that bool, if its false then use the deafual create session from the NULL OSS", for the Net driver you dont need to switch that neather the gameServerPort all you need to do is make sure the NULL OSS is running instead of the steam one, and make sure to do the same branching for the find session.
something to keep in mind for LAN sessions, your OS might block the editor, so you might need to change the firwall setting to allow the Editor .exe to access public/private network only then you can find the sessions
Hello, one thing worth checking is that the LAN flag is set the same way on both the session creation and the session search. Depending on the nodes you use, that is “Use LAN” on the create node and “Is LAN Query” on the find node. A session created as a Steam session will not appear in a LAN search, and the reverse is also true, so the checkbox value should reach the host graph as well as the Find Lobby graph.
Also, two machines on one home network normally share the same public IP address, but LAN discovery depends on the local addresses being on the same subnet and on the firewall allowing the game’s UDP traffic (port 7777 by default).
On your last question, as far as I know the Steam subsystem expects a running Steam client, so for players without Steam a LAN path usually relies on the Null subsystem, which in practice means a separate build or a configuration switch. Please treat this as a set of things to test rather than a confirmed fix.
