Lain Of The Wired - Wad To Unreal Converter

WAD to Unreal converts classic Doom-format IWAD and PWAD maps into editable Unreal Engine 5.8 levels. It extracts textures, flats, sprites, and sounds into native Unreal assets, reconstructs sector geometry using Dynamic Mesh, and bakes the result into editable Static Meshes.

The converter generates supported gameplay systems for pickups, keys, doors, lifts, switches, walk-over triggers, hazards, teleports, animated lighting, skies, and level transitions. Freedoom is used as the primary compatibility test set, providing developers and modders with a faithful foundation for bringing classic maps into Unreal while retaining full control through standard Unreal assets, classes, and Blueprints.

Required Unreal Engine plugins:

Mesh Modeling Toolset, Geometry Processing, Actor Sequence, and Paper2D. These plugins are included with Unreal Engine 5.8 and enabled automatically; no separate download or purchase is required. Mesh Modeling Toolset, Geometry Processing, and Actor Sequence are marked Beta in UE 5.8. Actor Sequence is also labelled Experimental. This product depends on these Beta/Experimental engine plugins.

A separate example project is provided featuring E1M1 from Freedoom: Phase 1, converted into editable Unreal assets with WAD to Unreal. It demonstrates the imported level, geometry, materials and supporting assets. Install WAD to Unreal separately to use the example project.
