🔥 About

Ultimate Cel Shader allows you to quickly add customizable cel and toon shading to your game with post process materials, you can get this set up in just a few minutes and give your game a whole new cel-shaded and/or toon look.

It also works with reflections, shadows, emissives, Lumen, and nanite out of the box so you don't need to worry about incompatibility with your level.

☑️ Features:

  • Highly customizable cel shader post-process material, with optional customizable outline post-process material.

  • Works with emissives, reflections, shadows, lumen, and nanite.

  • Since it's a post-process material it takes just a few minutes to integrate into your project.

  • Can be controlled using blueprints for things such as dynamic changes or settings menu options.

❗️ NOTE: The environments in this pack come from Epic Games free Edith Finch sample content.

If you have any questions, concerns, or need support, you can post it here and I will do my best to answer you promptly.

A video would be cool; showing the different settings in action.

I can look into a showcase video. I’ll probably wait till Fab has that video player feature, though.

A waste of money and overpriced.

For some reason, it comes with more than 1 GB of assets from another free pack as a bonus, which means that the asset is no longer plug & play, as you have to clean up the folders after installation.

There is only one shading layer and no setting for the range of shadows. The shader is applied too close to the shadow, which means that even at medium distance, shadows without the shader are already visible.

If you go to YouTube, you can quickly find videos with a much higher quality shader. The shader does not even have an outline to indicate that it is the sky.

I bought it with the intention of not storing my shader somewhere (according to a YouTube tutorial), but to add a ready-made one with one click, which will always be stored on my account. Plus, I hoped that there would be better optimization and customization (no).

Hi Madmen,

I’m sorry to hear that the asset didn’t meet your expectations. If you’d like a refund, I’d be happy to help get that processed for you. To do so, I would just need your Order ID and the Epic Account ID used for the purchase. You can send these to publishing@komodobitgames.com
, and I’ll make sure Epic processes the refund. Alternatively, showing them this comment should also work, since I’m confirming here that I approve the refund.

Regarding the included showcase scene, Fab requires that all content-adding assets have one, and sellers are limited to using Epic-provided sample assets. My goal was to provide an out-of-the-box scene that demonstrates the cel shader in multiple contexts such as foliage, shadows, reflections, and dense geometry so users can immediately see how it performs. I do mention this on the store page, and the showcase assets are in their own folder so they can be deleted quickly if not needed. I understand that this may have felt inconvenient for your workflow, and I’m sorry if it caused frustration. Additionally, the showcase content does not get packaged into the final game, so while the project files may get slightly larger, only the cel shader would be packaged for your distribution build, I can provide details on how to exclude maps or folders from packaging if you would like help on that.

On the performance side, the cel shader has been tested across multiple projects without significant FPS drops. That said, there are simpler shader tutorials available on YouTube that may be a better fit if you prefer a more lightweight or DIY approach. Some developers prefer to have a ready-made, more advanced solution, while others enjoy building shaders themselves. It really depends on your needs.

If you decide to keep the asset and would like support resolving issues such as the skybox one you mentioned, I’d be glad to help. I just ask that communication remains respectful, as I want to ensure a positive experience for both sides.

Thanks for giving the asset a try, and I wish you the best with your project, whether with this shader or another solution that works better for you.
