Heya,
I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around all this new stuff…
I come from an editor where it was ONLY BSP and 256x256px textures. UnrealEd2.0
Now, I got my hand on the UE4.4
my question is:
I want to make a map for UT4 but lacking modeling skills
(I want to testrun with assets that i can find in the downloads on the marketplace) (blueprintOffice, elementaldemo, etc)
Now how can I take a Static Mesh for example from the project “elemental demo”
And copy it into my map wich is under another projectname “UTmap”
I tried the migrate option… copy it into the contents folder of “UTmap”
That seems to work half…
But all the materials on the Static Mesh have gone missing… (the materials show as the standard grey sphere)
so then i need to re-assemble every material again in the material editor… (just add the right normalmap, texture, etc)
ok for 1-2 assets… But for a large transfer this is a pain in the ***.
I tried Collections too, But a collection you make seems to be bound to a project?
So i added SM_wall1 from “blueprintoffice” to a collection. exited UE4
Openend project “UTmap” >> collections empty.
What is a good way of transferring assets without having them partially destroyed?
Please advise me.
Thank you,
~
Migrate is the right way to do this. You have to keep everything in the exact same locations relative to the Content folder though. Do you migrate to the root of the Content folder in your project? If not, I’m guessing you inadvertently changed the path to the assets which breaks references and forces you to hook everything up again.
Hi, thanks for your reply.
yes I migrated it into the root content folder…
But i get an error saying that the assets may not work when not placed in a content folder… (i have 5 testprojects, tried each contentfolder of them)
when i click Ok, it says migrate succesfull.
but i get the issues.
Note: I started these projects with UE4.2.1 - Now i’m working with 4.4
small side question btw:
At the time i installed UE4 on my SSD. But it’s getting full now :o
can i change the directories of the whole UE4 program to be moved to my Data drive? been looking for that aswell.
or am i looking at a uninstall / re-install. (and thus another 20Gb re-downloading)
Can you show screenshots of the assets in the original Content folder and the assets after migrating to the new Content folder? I’d like to see the paths just to make sure there isn’t something weird going on.
I’m pretty sure you can move your installation. You probably have to copy the engine versions somewhere, uninstall/install to the new location, and then move the engine versions into that. I’ll see if I can get someone who is more familiar with that to reply.
i’ll get you these screenshots by monday.
(really can’t do earlier, i’m in class now, and going to the misses for the weekend)
but thanks!!

Probably this video will help you: ?v=aMRAXC6mIfk&feature=youtu.be
In it I migrate something from my project folder on my E: to another project in the project folder in C:
thanks for creating that video !
I have gotten it to work. strangly enough i can’t migrate assets directly to the right folder…
I have to migrate to desktop and then copy it in the right project…
But hey it works!
thx!
Hmm, really strange… probably it is something with the name of the project or one of the folders
