It is thought that some of these caves were used for religious purposes in the early periods of Christianity. There are large and small burial chambers in these tombs. It is understood from some findings that people lived in these tombs. The tombs have square and rectangular plans, some have flat domes and saddle roofs. Large and small niches opened into the walls were used as tombs.
