Jump Flooding (info needed)

I recently stumbled upon the work that Ryan Brucks did on Fortnight and the husk animations.

My first thought was wow!!!

My question though is how did he get the ray march to apply to a shadowbox voxelization and render out a smoke person that moves with the skeletal mesh. I would love to replicate the effect. He had posted a while back that he wasn’t ready to post the update to his fluidism plugin with skeletal mesh support but I’m thinking its the way to go for that effect.
