Hello friend,

If I may introduce myself, my name is John Meek, I’m the owner of a small game studio based out of Florida.
We are developing a multiplayer fps project with high ante for breaking into the market successfully.
I as the manager, doubling as the game designer for the title, have 20 years of experience within the Esports scene,
having won a National Tournament Championship with MLG for Halo 2 with a team called Type-Z.

Between strong, fun, accessible gameplay, and an effective strategic marketing model for growth & promotion,
we are expecting to make a major impact on the global fps community in introducing our new Arena shooter title to the world of video games.

With that said, we have all elements of programming, animation, music, & gameplay pressing strongly forward to create an incredible platform.
We are in need of a 3D artist who is a talented hand in building next-gen worlds in Unreal Engine 5.
This needs to be done natively in Unreal, otherwise, when importing from Blender, Z Brush, etc. the art objects will not have colliders
& will the map will have to be boxed all over again, creating double workload for what ought to be finished all in one shot.

The maps themselves will be very small to mildly considered medium in scale.
Each level is expected to take about 40 hour for completion.
We are seeking someone who is able to work full-time, so the artside of the game will be completed simultaneous to our programming deadline.

The map floorplans are already designed, you would be building them to look great according to UE5 next-gen quality standards,
requested with awareness of reasonable expectations in consideration of time restraints.
We are looking to make 6 maps for our game launch, offering $3,000 dollars upfront for the 240 hours of work it will take to complete this job.
I recognize that this is a very humble payment for an artist of the caliber we want to work with. We are at the very edge of limits for our budget
& it is the most we can offer for the opening.

Because of my desire to be fair, and to see you as a high-end artist rightly compensated,
what I can actually offer additional to the initial $3,000 deposit pre-launch is a significant royalty percentage from our profits.
My goal is to pay you an additional $3,000 dollars per map for a grand total of $21,000 dollars that you will receive for the 1.5 months of work
that you will be putting into this project.
25% of all profits from the game sales will go directly to you until we have paid the entirety of this aforementioned grand total.
Not only that, we will be looking to employ you full-time to our studio, with the goal to first have your salary raised to $5,000 per month,
then later $10,000 per month, which we are projecting will happen before year’s end.

It would be a privilege to have you apart of our team.
Let me know if you feel you meet all qualifications (it is crucial that you can build natively in Unreal Engine) & time requirements,
along with if interested in this job opportunity.
I appreciate you for taking the time to read over this offer, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks!

Wishing you the best,

John Meek

P.S. please link portfolio in response, thank you.

I am not artist, however in past i made some unreal maps (had meshes ready with collisions).

Making map in 40 hours together with meshes, is unrealistic. Unless you want low poly tournament friendly map. Some maps took me months (working on weekends only but 10-12 hours a day).

And you can make mesh in 3d app then either add auto collision after importing to unreal, or box it in 3d app, and import with collision.

Anyone further reading this thread with interest to the job opportunity please disregard the nawrot response. To say 40 hours is unrealistic is far from true. I have tons of experience building maps on Unity, and 40 hours is easily doable. I’m not asking for object creation from scratch, rather boxing floorplans using assets. I’m looking for someone who has skills & strong familiarity with UE5 for lighting etc. to go along with the map building. I appreciate your interest, let me know if you’d like to be hired.

Some questions:

  1. What does “UE5 next-gen quality standards” mean exactly?
  2. Do you have an example of a designed floor plan that you can show us?
  3. How many assets are needed to be created from scratch, and do you have an example of the caliber you expect?
  4. Have you ever published a game?

I have seen it happen several times before in working with various artists, I’m only ensuring that it doesn’t happen again so there won’t be double work required, so I really don’t get what this reaction is about.

  1. good question, that can be interpreted in a lot of ways. Just to say solid 3D environments with nice lighting, nothing over the top expected.
  2. will post additional comment with external example.
  3. nothing needs to be created from scratch.
anything that is close to the kitbash3d projects would be around the quality we are going for.
  4. this will be my first.

Instead of posting one of our actual maps on the public internet, here is a similar scale for reference from Halo infinite.
