Japanese Temple Cinematic Animation

I was recently working on a promotional video for a tattoo artist’s work. As a major part of it I wanted to create and model a full set.

In this video I wanted to share and give a cioser and an extended look into the environment and details in the video, that I was not able to shown in the final promotional video.

Hope You’ll lke it!

Hello @Rok.Pat !

I love this temple model you’ve created! The detail to the outside as well as the showcased inside is absolutely beautiful. I’ve not had the chance to learn or see many things about the inside of a traditional temple but I think your take is quite stunning. I’m particularly drawn to the placement of the furniture and how it all is drawn together with the simple yet meaningful placements.

How long did this project take, if I may ask?

Hey @The_M0ss_Man !

Thank You so much for Your kind words!

As I modelled majority of the Japanese architecture inspired temple myself, only the roof tiles, plants / trees, and a few lanterns etc. were taken from Quixel library, it took me around 3-4 months to fully put this together. Mainly due to the fact that I was working on it only during my free time outside work.

Feel free to ask more questions, I will be more than happy to respond!

Thanks again!

Hi there @Rok.Pat,

Hope you’re well and having a great week so far

What a brilliant way to showcase someone’s art. I love the warmth of the lighting choices, the boldness and intensity of the colors, and the polish on every element of this environment. It’s not just a gallery of empty white walls - its artfully crafted and so beautiful. Brilliant work

Hello @PresumptivePanda !

Many thanks for the wonderful feedback on this video! Really appreciate it!
This building was actually desinged and used as a set for a video I did for the same tattoo artist, that I shared some time ago here on the showcases.

Feel free to have a look and experiece the sets in a different way with actual Tattooed Metahuman Characters!

Thanks again!

Hey there @Rok.Pat !

Thank you so much for answering! The work you put into this project really shows as even now when I watch it again it leaves me in absolute awe. My favorite parts have to be the gong, drums, and the room with the small moat of water around the center area. They just bring a very lifelike and fun feel. Although that one room with the candles looks very cozy and I could totally envision a nice mid day nap there, haha.

For the framed items on the walls, were those something you textured by hand as well?

Hi @The_M0ss_Man !

The framed artwork is by SUDANIM, the tattoo artist for whom I made the video. So it made sense to decorate the sets with his original artwork. He hand drew and framed them, and displays them in his studio, sells them as well.

I took a photo of the framed art work, and used Blender to model them, with extrusions to bring them to 3D. In the Temple set I took the liberty of changing their sizes to that they fit the set better.

This was the photo I took in his studio that I used to model the the individual frames:

Here’s a screen shot from Blender how they looked like after I finished modelling them direclty from individually prepared textures:

After they were done I’ve imported the textured .FBX files into UE5 and placed them around the sets. The reflective glass effect was achieved with Specular Maps

Hope this answers Your question, and thanks again for the kind words! Feel free to come back with more questions, I am more than happy to answer!

Hi there @Rok.Pat !

That certainly does answer my question. I often have a little difficulty with modeling real life references in blender especially when it comes to the beautiful texture detail that we see here with yours. Seeing the process helped me understand just a little better and I think some of my worries was just a minor lack of knowledge on my end!

Thank you again so much for the detailed response and showing us a peek into the process!
