Jagged Edge Issue Between Mud Plane and Landscape

Guess I’m looking for the best way to do mud in UE5 since I’m struggling with my current method. At the moment the mud is a plane that is placed on lowered terrain but the transition between mud and landscape is really jagged. I’ve seen some stuff on making the landscape a mesh and raising the polycount but this approach doesn’t work for me since I need a landscape mesh for my footstep plug-in to work. If there’s a better way of approaching mud altogether please let me know.
