I've broken the Animation and Rigging Toolkit

've been occasionally trying my hand at learning to animate with the Animation and Rigging Toolkit.
Yesterday I’ve installed the latest version of Unreal (4.9), and to save discspace removed the old (4.7).
However, with that Animation and Rigging Toolkit seems to have broken, since it still attempts to find the old files.
I’ve copied and pasted the new start-up script from UE 4.9 into the maya scripts, and tried a repair and reinstall from the Autodesk application manager.
I’ve also done a full uninstal and reinstall, which did not work either.
My copy of the Animation and Rigging Toolkit is now completely bricked.
How can I reinstall it properly, or make the scripting work properly?

Hi Harath,

  1. With Maya and UE4 closed
  2. Follow the steps from this link: http://www.unrealenginetutorials.com/add-animation-and-rigging-tools-in-maya/
  3. Remember to COPY the file: “userSetup.py” (Leaving a copy in the UE4.9 directory)
  4. Paste a copy of “userSetup.py” into the Maya directory per instructions
  5. Open Maya and expect to see an error
  6. Click on “Browse” and be SURE to navigate to the EPIC directory (NOT the Maya directory) that contains one of the two copies of “userSetup.py”
  7. Selecting “userSetup.py” from the EPIC directory should result in a menu added in the Top menu bar in Maya

If these steps did not work, let us know what your results were and what version of Maya you are using.

-Thanks

Dear mr. .

Unfortunately this hasn’t worked. I tried to do a complete reinstall of Maya, but the Animation and Rigging Toolkit remained in the taskbar.
I did make sure to copy the new userSetup.py into the Maya scripts folder when first I installed UE 4.9.
The expected error did not appear, however.
I’ve temporarily solved the problem by copying the new A&RT files to the old 4.7 folders, which seems to work.
I am uncertain if this is a longterm workable solution.

Currently I use Autodesk Maya 2016 on a student’s liscence,

Hi Harath,

I’m glad you have found a workaround for now. If you continue to have problems, or if you would simply like to know what the best solution would be, I suggest posing the question to the developer of the tool himself, Jeremy Ernst, on the following forum post: Animation and Rigging Tools: FAQ, Known Issues and Feature Roadmap

Typically we do not direct users to the forum, but the other way around. However, in this case, where you have at least a temporary solution, and this is a special feature that was created by one developer, this can be considered an “exception to the rule.” Please bear in mind, as our developer’s are very busy, I cannot guarentee Jeremy will/can reply with a solution. In which case, respond to this AnswerHub if you experience continued difficulties and we will investigate it further here.

Thanks
