I've been using TM 2022.2 P2 with a Sketchup model for the past week just fine. Today I save my SU model as a new model (Concept 10 to Concept 11) and reimport new file. When this file comes into TM i have lost imported textures AND TM textures.

All these textures were there with the Concept 10 version. But not after reimport with new file. I can't keep backing up to recreate the same elements over and over again. That's not progress. There is no error or bug so I cannot upload anything to help. Please respond.

Hello ,

How are you importing your SketchUp model into Twinmotion? Are you importing an FBX or SKP file directly, or are you using the Datasmith plugin with Direct Link?

I've just tested this using the Datasmith plugin's Direct Link following the steps you described and I didn't encounter any issues with textures/materials being lost. If you're using an older version of the plugin - the current version is 5.0.2 - then updating to the latest plugin might help. You can download the latest plugin from the Twinmotion Datasmith Exporter plugin for SketchUp Pro page. Be sure to uninstall any previosuly installed versions of the plugin before installing the new one.

If you're still having issues, please submit a bug report here and share a video of the issue and any files you noticed it happening with so our support team can investigate.

Hi Raghib

I'm importing my SU model directly, the same way i have done it since 2019. I'm using SU Pro 2021 and didn't have this issue prior to TM 2022.2 P2. I was able to rename my new model to match the name of the previous model and everything came in correctly, but that's not a solution to the issue. The issue shouldn't happen to begin with. Reimporting a revised SU file or deleting and importing a new SU file shouldn't be this particular. All the same textures from one SU file to another. There is no bug report to issue. When i observe the issue i simply close TM, there is no bug report at all, it's just not working correctly for some reason. These types of issues continue to persist and makes me nervous about TM reliability ahead of a presentation.

We actually had this come up internally on a non-SketchUp related issue and it looks like the developers found a fix just last week. The fix should cover this issue as well. We're expecting the fix to go out in either a hotfix for 2022.2 or in a preview release for our next feature update, which should be around August or September.

What we recommend for the meantime is to use the Datasmith plugin for SketchUp, which you can download here. The plugin shouldn't be experiencing this issue, so it should work without changing your workflow too much until we can get the fix released.

Thanks for your confirmation on replicating the issue.

Interestingly enough, today working in the TM model where the SU textures hadn't re-imported (just white furniture models), I inadvertently selected (with eyedrop tool) one of those furniture pieces and scaled it numerically and the correct texture suddenly appeared! I then continued to all the other SU model textures that were white and did the same thing. All these textures are now back and correct. If you still have my model with the white SU textures, I would suggest replicating this.

Thanks again

I was about to ask this same question, since I had TM 2021, and it was working like a charm while reimporting directly from sketchup, now in 2022.2 it seems every time I reimport the model triggers the same effect yours do, some of the textures comes out in white, but when you modify any of the sliders (Reflection in my case) the texture comes back.

The problem is when you are working on such big files with lots of textures, I have no time to reimport and move sliders for all the materials.

PS: I have tested out reimporting and importing the whole massing again, directly from sketchup, with datasmith and also with DirecLink, the result is the same though white textures that render Black with PT, but once you move the slider the texture pops back and is fixed on the PT.

Also notice that water on this version comapre to 2021 is dull looks like plastic, unless you use higher sample numbers on PT.

I hope you guys can find and solve the issue! otherwise please keep up with the excellent work!

Best,

Julio

Thanks for letting me know.

I just tested this using a direct SKP file import on my end using SketchUp Pro 2021 to create the SKP and importing it into Twinmotion 2022.2 Preview 2 and I still wasn't able to replicate the issue. When I reimported using a new file, which was the original SKP model unchanged except for the name, I didn't have any issues with materials not coming through, and all of the material changes I applied to the model remained after the reimport.

If you could submit a support ticket at this link and provide a screen recording of this issue as it happens on your end and a copy of your Twinmotion and SketchUp files, that would be very helpful in helping us figure out what might be going wrong: https://twinmotionhelp.epicgames.com/s/case-community-page
