Is UE4 any better on laptops with the new update?

I really want to use UE4 on my laptop but I’ve heard it was not good on laptops before the new update. Is it any better now since the new update? My laptop would probably work okay for it without the update.

What are the hardware specs of your laptop? While I’m sure there are performance improvements in each update, there’s not any specific update that greatly improves performance.

it basically has all the specs in the requirements except it’s not a desktop. It has an i5 processor, windows 7, the HD graphics card needed, and more than enough RAM.

What graphics card? If it’s using Intel graphics then it’s very low end and it’s never going to perform all that well.

It’s probably Intel but I’m not sure; it’s HDMI and not bad. I checked my specs and my laptop meets all the system requirements for UE4 but the fact that it’s not a desktop.

Does your graphics card meet the min specs a GTX470? In the laptop world you’d be looking minimum GTX 870M (or there about).

I have no idea how to check that, can’t find it. It should meet those requirements since it’s pretty updated. It’s an Intel(R) HD 3000 video card.

I have been thinking about getting a laptop too for using with UE4, but I recall someone mentioning that laptops have trouble running the game engine because of the limitations of a laptop’s GPU compared to a desktop. Specifically, he mentioned even with a GTX 780M that he was only able to get an average of 30 fps while running the elemental demo.

It won’t run well on a HD3000, in terms of graphics prowess they are near the bottom of the food chain.

I see, I’ve been able to run games pretty well with low graphics. If I got rid of all of the virusis and cleaned up my computer a bit I could run it with a bit of lag. At least Unreal is trying to make the engine faster on Laptops and MAC. Thanks for the help.

Go to ControlPanel ->system ->Devicemanager. Everything is there.

Actually, in another thread a developer says that it won’t run at all on Intel HD 3000
Even if it did, it would be very poor performance, of today’s graphics processors those are the worst.

You are not simply running a game though. You are trying to make games in an editor that is running inside the very game engine you are trying to make games for. Recommended hardware is naturally going to be far more powerful than needed to actually run a game.

This thread.

It works on mine. But only 14FPS for editing an unlit scene. (Unreal 4.1.1)
