Is UE 4.21.1 supported on MacOS Monterey?

I have a project in Unreal 4.21.1 on my Mac that is running Mojave (10.14.6) and want to update to Monterey. Any idea whether 4.21.1 is supported on Monterey? For legacy reasons I would like to avoid updating Unreal itself if possible.

Hey there @Perry-D-Platypus1! Welcome to the community! So from what I know, Monterey is now requiring XCode 13, which will likely introduce problems in the build process even if the engine initially runs fine. (which I also couldn’t verify on my side). I did some digging and couldn’t find a 100% yes or no for 4.21, I’ve learned Monterey is verified to work with 4.24+ so far.

Thanks for the response @SupportiveEntity! Do you happen to know what the last version of MacOS was that had support for 4.21?

Did a bit of digging through some old documentation to mostly no avail, so I started cross referencing dates and information. Since 4.21 released on Nov 7, 2018 I checked the most recent MacOS for that date frame and Mojave was the current at the time. Catalina and Big Sur didn’t seem to make any changes that would have caused any issues outright but I can’t verify. In theory there shouldn’t be any issues, but the Macbook I have here for mobile stuff is unfortunately High Sierra so even older. I’m going to keep looking around to see if I can verify if Monterey works out as it’d be best to get you all the way up to date!

Hello again @SupportiveEntity! I was wondering if there has been any update on verifying whether Monterey works with 4.21?

In addition, do you happen to know whether 4.21 will continue to be supported on future versions of MacOS? If not, what is the recommendation for maintaining projects created in older versions of the engine? I ask because the project I mentioned in my initial post will likely be shelved for the time being, but I have intentions to come back to it in a couple years’ time. I’d like to make sure I will still have access to the code and blueprints when that happens. Happy to post this on a different thread, though, if it isn’t relevant to the topic at hand.

Hey there @Perry-D-Platypus1! I hadn’t heard anything back from who I had asked about this. Theoretically it should be fine for Monterey, I just can’t find anyone with the equipment + packaging experience to check at the moment.

Going forward it’s going to be depending on how much Apple changes per release. Xcode version going up is one thing, but massive sweeping changes under the hood that could come in the future often breaks legacy applications for MacOS so only time will tell for that answer!
