Hey, new user here!
The marketplace in the unreal launcher seems to have very little content with no option to search or “see more results”. Is this intentional? Do they filter what’s available that heavily that there has only ever been 5 2d assets for sale ever, do they permanently remove old assets for sale or am I missing somewhere where I can see more content?

Yeah, i guess by now this is all. The marketplace is only up for a few weeks, so the content still needs to be increased.
You can have a look at the Forum. There is a subforum for the Marketplace and also one for Community Assets that are given away for free.

You can also have a look at the Trello Page of the Market. There are things listed that might come into the Marketplace.
